Agamograph maker

Pick two pictures, preview the flip, then print a ready-to-fold A4 sheet. A classic art-class project.

Your photos stay on your device: everything is drawn in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to fold it

  1. Print the sheet on thick paper or card, in landscape.
  2. Fold on every line, alternating: dashed lines away from you, solid lines toward you, like a paper fan.
  3. Stand it up or glue the end strips to a backing card so it keeps its zigzag.
  4. Look from the left to see picture 1 and from the right to see picture 2.

Questions

What is an agamograph?

A picture printed on a folded zigzag (accordion) surface, so you see one image from the left and a different one from the right. It is named after the Israeli artist Yaacov Agam, who made them famous in the 1960s.

How do I make one?

Pick two pictures, press Print sheet and print the A4 page. Fold along the marks like a paper fan: dashed lines fold away from you (valleys), solid lines toward you (mountains). Glue the back to card if you like, then look at it from the left and from the right.

How many strips should I use?

Eight to twelve strips per picture is easiest to fold. More strips look smoother but need careful folding; fewer are good for children.

Is it good for school?

Yes: it is a popular art class project. Students can use their own drawings or photos as the two pictures.
